Residents return home after firework discovery
Getty ImagesResidents in Rushden have been allowed to return to their homes after a "potentially suspicious" item discovered inside a vehicle turned out to be a firework.
A "precautionary" 100m (330ft) cordon was in place around the area of Rockingham Court in the town after the item was found on Saturday evening.
Northamptonshire Police said specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers attended the scene and that after they found the item was "not a viable device".
Officers said the firework was safely removed and that there was no ongoing risk to the public.
The force said a number of nearby homes were evacuated while the item was assessed with residents supported and taken to a nearby rest centre while inquiries were carried out.
It thanked the residents for their patience and cooperation during the EOD response.
