Further sentencing delay for man who killed mum
Lincolnshire PoliceThe sentencing of a man who killed a Spalding mother in her own home has been further delayed after a psychiatrist asked for more time to assess him.
Kristine Sparane, 37, was found by police lying on a bed and covered in blood at her flat in Winsover Road, Spalding, on 26 November 2024.
Brian Simpson, 64, of Nene Court, Spalding, was due to be sentenced on 20 March after a jury found he killed Sparane.
However, a hearing at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday was told his first psychiatric report had taken longer than anticipated and would not be ready until the end of March.
The court heard Simpson will then have to be examined by a second psychiatrist.
Simpson was initially charged with murder but a trial of facts was held in May 2025 after he was deemed unfit to face a criminal trial due to his mental health.
After hearing evidence of Sparane's injuries, the jury decided Mr Simpson was responsible for her death.
Simpson's sentencing has previously been delayed so he could be moved from prison to a suitable secure hospital for a psychiatric assessment.
A sentencing date will be fixed at a hearing on 2 April, the court heard on Friday. Until then, Simpson remains remanded into a secure mental hospital.
