Bridgnorth Bridge is Grade II-listed and a key crossing in the town

Shropshire Council is planning a programme of maintenance and repair work on a bridge after inspections revealed the need for extensive structural improvements.

Bridgnorth Bridge, which is Grade II-listed and a key crossing in the town, requires repairs to both its masonry and concrete elements.

The scheme has secured funding and will form part of the council's capital works programme, with works scheduled to take place from 2027 to 2028.

The council has commissioned engineering consultants WSP to carry out a detailed assessment of the bridge's load-carrying capacity, with a full inspection already complete.

The assessment will confirm how much weight the bridge can safely support and help guide the design of the planned repairs.

The assessment is expected to be completed by April.

Shropshire Council said the project aims to preserve the historic character of the bridge while ensuring it remained safe and resilient for years to come.
