Boy, 14, arrested over derelict hotel fire
Island EchoA 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a fire engulfed a derelict hotel on the Isle of Wight.
The blaze caused extensive damage to the roof and top floors of the former Cygnet Hotel on the corner of Carter Street and Broadway in Sandown on 18 October.
Firefighters from across the island and an additional crew from Waterlooville worked through the night to tackle the fire after it broke out shortly after 18:00 BST.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the teenager, from Shanklin, had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has since been released on conditional bail until 21 January.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said no injuries were reported following the fire and investigations are ongoing into the cause.
There have been numerous fires at several of the island's derelict hotels, including the Cygnet Hotel, at the seaside resort.
