Five people have been arrested after two men were stabbed during a disorder in Sandwell, police said.

West Midlands Police were called to reports of people using weapons in Birchfield Lane, Oldbury, shortly before 00:50 GMT on Sunday.

The two injured men, in their 20s and 30s, were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, the force said.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class B drugs, and a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of Class A drugs.

Officers also detained two women aged 34 and 44, and a 34-year-old man on suspicion of violent disorder.

All five remain in police custody as inquiries continue.

Ch Insp Imran Mirza said the force was carrying out a "thorough investigation" to understand what had happened.

"I would like to reassure the community that we do believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public," he added.
