An 11-year-old boy has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after he was hit by a car in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Police confirmed on Monday morning that a road closure was in place, affecting New Road, Long Street, Station Road, Hinckley Road and Broughton Road in Stoney Stanton.

The force said it was called to the area at 07:38 GMT to reports the boy had been hit by a Land Rover Defender.

The boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and a police spokesperson said they were awaiting an update on the extent of his injuries.
