A fire which closed a gym and spa in Long Eaton was probably caused by an electrical fault in the sauna, an investigation has found.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Clifford Health Club and Spa in Regent Street at 08:15 GMT on Saturday.

Five appliances and an aerial ladder were deployed to the scene and the fire was contained, a statement confirmed.

All people in the club were quickly accounted for, no injuries were reported and Regent Street has since reopened, the fire service confirmed.

Group manager David Diggins said: "Several fire crews attended the scene of a fire in a ground floor sauna earlier this morning, working hard to contain the fire and prevent its spread.

"Thankfully no one was injured.

"An onsite trained and responsible person had instigated the safe evacuation and roll call of everyone in the club before the arrival of fire crews."
