A gym and spa in Long Eaton has been closed after a fire broke out at the leisure facility.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Clifford Health Club and Spa in Regent Street at 08:15 GMT on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the fire service said five appliances and an aerial ladder were deployed to the scene and the blaze, located on the ground floor, was "under control".

The building had been evacuated before crews arrived and no injuries were reported, the fire service added.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is scheduled to take place later on Saturday, the fire service said.

A spokesperson added: "Anyone evacuated from the club and needing access to their lockers and belongings should make themselves known to officers on the scene.

"Regent Street is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours."

In a post on Facebook, the spa and gym said it expected to remain shut for the rest of the day and would update members and guests "at the earliest opportunity".
