John Bootland admitted murder at Leeds Crown Court

A man has admitted killing a woman who died following a disturbance in Leeds.

John Bootland, 57, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court on Friday to murdering Colleen Westerman on 6 November.

The 62-year-old victim was pronounced dead after she was found fatally injured by police at a house in Melville Gardens, in the Woodhouse area of the city.

Bootland, of no fixed abode, has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 1 April.

Det Insp Tom Hilyer, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "We welcome Bootland's guilty plea today, particularly as it has spared Colleen's family the ordeal of a trial.

"We now await Bootland's sentencing and our thoughts remain with family members at what remains a very difficult time."
