A driver who police say was watching a TikTok video when he crashed and killed another motorist has admitted causing his death.

Norman Case, 58, was sitting in stationary traffic on the A12 in Essex when a black Mercedes went into the back of his vehicle in October 2024.

Ismaeel Malik, 22, of Bledlow Ridge in High Wycombe, pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday. Essex Police said he had a history of watching TikTok videos at the wheel.

Case's family said his two children "could never have imagined not seeing their father alive again", having dropped them off at a school bus stop earlier that morning.

"Mr Malik caused Norman's death, preferring to watch a TikTok video rather than watching the stationary traffic in the road ahead," said the family, in a statement.

He will be sentenced for the single charge of causing death by dangerous driving on 29 April.

The collision happened at Kelvedon on 22 October 2024 shortly after 09:30 GMT.

Despite the "best efforts" of paramedics, Case died at the scene, police said.

The technology expert lived in Tolleshunt Major near Maldon with his wife Sarah and their children.

"Norm was the life and soul of our family. Now there is a massive void that will never be filled," said Sarah.

"Everyone loved Norm, he had a smile that lit up every room, he had time and a nickname for everyone. He was a genuinely kind and thoughtful man that loved life, his family and friends."

She said he "adored being a dad" and playing sport with his children.

Sarah thanked the police for their support, adding: "Life will never be the same without Norman Case."
