A widower said he had set up a memorial foundation in his late wife's name after she was killed by a falling tree branch while on a family walk through a Lancashire park.

Madia Kauser, 32, was with her husband and their two children in Witton Park, Blackburn, when the branch fatally struck her on 11 August.

Wasim Khan said the Madia Kauser Foundation would raise money to help local children.

"She would honestly give her last £10 in her pocket if she had seen a child struggle," he said, adding: "I want people to understand she was so unselfish."

'Very caring mum'

He said he would take part in a charity walk up Pendle Hill on 7 February to kickstart fundraising efforts.

Khan said: "I want to try to raise money to help kids - similar ages to mine - who are struggling with hunger or poverty.

"I want to donate all the funds to local families struggling directly in Blackburn on behalf of her.

"That's [the] kind of heart she had.

"Real help starts in our own local community."

Kauser's great-uncle previously said his great-niece "loved her kids to bits" and would be remembered as a "very caring mum who died saving her daughter".

He added: "She was very kind-hearted and would go out of her way for anyone."

In November Blackburn with Darwen Council was served with an improvement notice by the HSE and last month approved a new policy on the management of the borough's trees, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

An inquest into Kauser's death was opened in August.
