A hillwalker died and two others were rescued after getting into difficulties on a mountain in Wester Ross last week, it has emerged.

Police and Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team carried out a search for the three people on Sgurr Fiona, a summit on An Teallach, after concerns were raised at 17:45 last Thursday.

Two people were found and one needed hospital treatment. A few hours later the body of the third person was recovered.

Police Scotland said the 58-year-old man's family was aware and an inquiry was ongoing.

An Teallach is a mountain south of Dundonnell, in the north west Highlands, which is popular with walkers and climbers.

Its ridge has two Munros, Sgurr Fiona and Bidein a Ghlas Thuill.

On Tuesday afternoon, mountain rescue teams were involved in a complex 20-hour long rescue of a well-equipped walker who had got stuck on Sgurr Fiona.

Heavy rain hampered the effort.

Volunteers from Dundonnell, Assynt, Police Scotland and RAF Lossiemouth mountain rescue teams eventually managed to get them to safety on Wednesday.
