Cat rescued from wall cavity finds fur-ever home

A kitten that was rescued by fire crews from a wall cavity has found his forever home.

Little Red is now living with his new owner, a veterinary nurse who took care of him in the time after the incident in Walsall.

He was just days old when he fell 13ft (4m) into a narrow wall cavity on 31 July, and was brought to safety by Red Watch firefighters from West Midlands Fire Service, who he is named after.

In the aftermath, he was brought back to health by Stray Cats Rescue Team West Midlands, based in Albrighton, Shropshire and Cavan Vets in Wolverhampton.

Little Red was "extremely weak, floppy, pale and gasping for air" when he was pulled from the wall cavity, but improved with nursing care from the veterinary surgery.

The public sent piles of donations after an appeal on Facebook to support his recovery.

West Midlands Fire Service said it was a "truly happy ending".

Stray Cats Rescue Team West Midlands said Little Red's new owner, Amy, had spent a lot of time with the kitten while he was in the vets' care.

"It didn't take long for Amy to fall head over heels in love," the rescue said on Facebook.

It said Red had new furry siblings and was "so happy".

"Amy - thank you for falling in love and offering this little chap the best home," it continued.

"To the fire service - thank you for saving this little boy's life and not giving up.

"Red - be happy. You have your whole life to enjoy now... it's hard to think of any words, but wow."
