A gel blaster gun has been seized by police after a group of teenagers used it to shoot at people and vehicles in a North Yorkshire town.

Three youths wearing black clothing shot the gel gun in several locations in Boroughbridge - including High Street, Horsefair, the river parking area and the salmon ladders - between 13:30-15:40 GMT on Sunday, according to police.

The item was confiscated by officers, who have since appealed for witnesses or anyone who may have been shot at to get in contact.

Some gel blaster guns, BB and airsoft guns can be owned by people over the age of 18 and used on private property but, under the Violent Crime Reduction Act, they cannot be used in public places.

Gel blaster guns use liquid-based gel balls, unlike BB guns which use metal or plastic projectiles.

If such items resemble real firearms too closely, they can also be considered illegal.
