Man appears in court on murder charge after woman found in flat

A man has appeared in court charged with murder and domestic abuse after a woman was found dead at a block of flats in Glasgow.

The body of Joanne Newlands, 41, was discovered in a property in Kirkton Avenue, Knightswood, on 17 March following reports of concern for a woman.

Brian Hughes, 49, made no plea when he appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody.

He will return court again within eight days.
