Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said

A man has been left in a critical condition in hospital after a suspected stabbing in York city centre, police have said.

Officers were called to a property in the Micklegate area at about 15:20 GMT on Thursday where the victim, aged in his 40s, was found injured.

Five people - two men and three women, aged between 28 and 58 - have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Officers have asked anyone with information to get in touch.
