Police given increased stop-and-search powers
West Midlands PolicePolice in parts of Birmingham have been given more powers to stop and search people on Saturday night, after a series of serious incidents, including a gun being fired.
West Midlands Police said it followed the firearms incident and a wounding earlier in the month.
Officers have been granted Section 60 powers, which allow them to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds, between 19:00 GMT on Saturday and 03:00 on Sunday.
It will be in place across a specific part of the city, which includes Winson Green and parts of Rotton Park and Brookfields.
The force added that there would be an increased police presence in the area to reassure the community.
