The estimated cost of a new Aberdeen maternity hospital and cancer centre has risen to more than £438m - £15m more than a forecast published last month.

The Baird Family Hospital and Anchor Cancer Centre were both meant to open in 2020, but have faced a series of delays.

A report to be discussed by NHS Grampian now has a target date for the Baird of June 2027, with the Anchor set to open in July this year.

They were originally expected to cost up to £134m. That figure rose last month to more than £420m, according to Scottish government documents. NHS Grampian now puts that figure at £438.6m.

Project approval was given more than 10 years ago but building work did not start until 2021.

In December, BBC Scotland News revealed the project was facing further delays.

Construction has been hit by problems including issues with water and ventilation systems and design issues.

Design review

New Scottish government infrastructure delivery documents last month put the project investment at £423.6m.

The Scottish government said the health board was implementing "several changes to the new hospital, resulting from a design review" which had affected the completion date and cost.

A report to be discussed by NHS Grampian's board on Thursday says the project forecast is now sitting at £438.6m.

The report states that, based on learnings from the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry, the new estimated opening dates will be subject to weekly review.

The Baird Family Hospital will offer maternity and breast-screening services, as well as a neonatal unit and operating theatre.
