A lorry fire has blocked the M62 eastbound between junction 16 for the M60 and junction 19 for Heywood, causing lengthy delays.

All four lanes were shut initially after the fire at 06:45 GMT.

National Highways North West warned drivers initially of delays of up to two hours but said by 13:05 all earlier delays had been cleared.

One lane is still out of action and resurfacing will take place overnight into Wednesday.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines from Blackley, Heywood and Whitefield attended the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Crews wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used two hose reels, a short extension ladder and specialist lighting to extinguish the fire.

"Greater Manchester Police were in attendance to cordon the area.

"Firefighters departed after roughly an hour."
