A sheep has been killed in a dog attack in Ashdown Forest, rangers say.

The attack was believed to have taken place in the permanent grazing enclosure on the South Chase on Friday morning.

The ewe sustained bites to her back legs and was taken from the Duddleswell cattle grid to Crest Farm for treatment, where it later died.

"We are sad to share that a sheep was attacked by a dog," an Ashdown Forest spokesman said.

“Sheep worrying is a crime which can have very serious consequences for the dog, its owner and, obviously, the livestock.

“This is something that could and should have been avoided.”

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the attack is urged to contact the duty ranger at Ashdown Forest.
