Dispersal order at asylum hotel after arrest

Police have issued a dispersal order in the area around a Surrey asylum hotel after reports of disorder at the site.

Protests have taken place at the Stanwell Hotel after the government announced plans in July to move families seeking asylum out of the hotel and to replace them with single men.

The order was sought after a woman was arrested when a group of people tried to gain access to the hotel grounds on Tuesday, Surrey Police said.

Insp Matt Walton said while the force "respects the right to lawful protests.......criminal offences and public disorder will not be tolerated".

He also said: "There will also be an increased police presence in the area."

The dispersal order, which runs until 16:00 BST on Friday, gives officers the power to direct anyone engaged in anti-social behaviour to leave a specified area and not return for up to 48 hours.

Surrey Police said the woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.
