Thieves steal safe from charity shop

A safe containing money has been stolen from a charity shop in Lincoln.

Thieves smashed a glass door to break into the Barnardo's store in the Nettleham Road Shopping Centre.

The charity said it happened Monday night or Tuesday morning and Lincolnshire Police confirmed it was investigating.

A spokesperson from Barnado's said: "Takings from the store were stolen and there was also some damage to the premises as the thieves gained entry."

The charity said money raised from the shop was used to help children, young people and their families across Lincolnshire.

The force said its control room received a call just after 07:15 BST on Tuesday to report a door at the shop had been smashed.

Tony Wray, who lives in the area, said it was "ridiculous" that a charity shop had been targeted.

"They'll break into anything around here," the 86-year-old added.
