Two men released on bail after stabbing

Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in south Belfast have been released on police bail.

There was a large police presence in the Fitzroy Avenue area on Wednesday night and a section of road was taped off.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at about 19:28 BST and a rapid response paramedic and ambulance crew attended the scene.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Det Insp Harvey said the victim "sustained multiple puncture wounds to his chest and neck and was bleeding from his left ear".

The injuries are not believed to be life threatening, and the man is receiving treatment in hospital.

Two men, both aged in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and theft.

Police said the men have since been released on bail to allow for further enquiries, adding that the investigation continues.
