A Shropshire swimming pool shut for more than two months after a leak caused one of its pools to lose a significant amount of water has reopened.

The pool at Market Drayton Swimming and Fitness Centre closed on 15 October, with Shropshire Council saying the issue likely came from underground pipework close to the main pool.

The closure left people having to travel to Whitchurch or Shrewsbury swimming pools, and a nearby canoe club said it had been made "homeless".

Opening on Friday, improvements include the re-grouting of the learner pool, pipework being replaced, new flooring and flooding issues fixed in its car park.

At the time of the closure, Shropshire Council said the repairs would cost about £230,000, which would come from the authority's capital budget.

Sharing the news on social media, the authority said the reopening was "great news" and the centre itself said it was "excited" to have it back up and running.
