An emergency bleed-control kit that could potentially save lives is set to be installed in a town centre in Warwickshire.

Warwick District Council said the bleed control cabinet would be installed outside Leamington Spa town hall, on the corner of Livery Street and the Parade.

The specialist kits, designed to be easily identifiable and accessible, contain items including dressings and gauzes, which can help control bleeding and provide emergency first aid to knife wounds.

District councillor Jim Sinnott said: "Whilst we hope there won't be any occasions where this kit is required, it's reassuring for our residents to know they are there."

A council spokesperson said the installation supported the introduction of the Protection of Premises Bill, otherwise known as Martyn's Law, named after Martyn Hett, who was killed in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing.

"Major injuries can happen in all environments such as car accidents or trips and falls, and the chances of saving a life in the event of significant blood loss is greatly improved with access to lifesaving equipment," the authority added.
