A-road water main roadworks to last 17 weeks

A 17-week project costing £500,000 to replace an old water main on a Wiltshire A-road is set to begin this week.

The work, near Melksham, involves changing two sections of the ageing infrastructure on the A365 Bath Road, east of Bowerhill and in Sells Green.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Monday near Spout Lane, then from 22 September the signals will be in place at different times as work progresses.

Wessex Water said it was an "essential investment" and apologised for any inconvenience, adding the project was expected to be finished by 19 December.

The work will move from Sells Green to near the junction with Carnation Lane as the water main is replaced.

Wessex Water explained the works were needed to improve the area's water supply and it had planned them to reduce disruption as much as possible.

"The project will be completed under temporary traffic lights which, at certain locations, will be manually controlled to help reduce congestion and delays," said a spokesperson for the company.

They said the firm had also written to local customers, businesses and schools in the area to tell them about the work.
