A 14-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a stabbing in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said officers attended Market Square, in the Woodhouse area of the city, on Wednesday at about 21:50 GMT.

The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment, with police saying his injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

Appealing for anyone with information to get in touch, the force said a cordon remained in place on Thursday while further inquiries took place.
