A 74-year-old woman has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Sussex.

Sussex Police said the incident, involving a green convertible BMW Z, happened in Loxwood Road, Plaistow, just after 12:00 BST on Saturday.

The elderly pedestrian was taken to hospital, the force confirmed.

Sgt Mark Miller said officers were investigating the circumstances and urged witnesses and anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.

"In particular we would like to know if anyone saw the car being driven prior to the collision," he added.
