A report of cruelty to a deer in Long Newton woods was made on 18 February, police said

A man has been arrested after a deer was found dead in a wood.

Cleveland Police received a report of animal cruelty in Long Newton woods, Stockton-on-Tees, on Wednesday.

A 37-year-old man was arrested earlier on suspicion of poaching and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
