Man charged over campus crash that killed student
Family handoutA man has been charged after a university student was hit and killed by a van near her campus earlier this year.
Aalia Mahomed, 20, from Mitcham, south London, was sitting on a bench in a pedestrianised area outside King's College London (KCL) when she was struck by the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man and a woman in their 20s were also seriously injured during the crash.
Christopher Jackson, 27, of Southampton, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving,
He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 January.
Ms Mahomed's family paid tribute to her after her death as a "bright, kind and beautiful soul".
A week after the crash, which happened in March, dozens of people gathered at the scene to pay tribute to Ms Mahomed - many of them wearing her favourite colour, green.
Ms Mahomed's brother Zain spoke at the event, where he said: "I would give anything for one more day with her.
"She will never get to be the cool aunt or that cat lady she joked about being. She was a hero, my hero."
