School expansion approved to boost SEND places
City of WolverhamptonPlans to expand a Wolverhampton school which looks after students with special educational needs and disabilities have been approved.
The permanent extension of Green Park School, in Bilston, will provide 27 extra places from September 2027.
The number of Wolverhampton pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) has risen significantly, increasing by 58% between 2020 and 2025, from 1,549 to 2,453, the city council said.
For post-16 pupils with an EHCP, the increase is even more pronounced, up 63% over the same period.
"We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to the right provision to help them thrive, and this expansion is a vital step in meeting the growing demand for specialist school places in Wolverhampton," Councillor Jacqui Coogan said.
"Our school is a place where every child is valued, encouraged, and supported to grow not only academically but personally, and we are excited that the planned expansion has been approved,"Lorraine Dawney, headteacher of Green Park School, added.
