Space firm proposes £85m satellite factory
BBCAn aerospace company has proposed building an £85m satellite factory if it is backed by the government.
Lockheed Martin and Durham County Council want to build the facility at science hub NETPark in Sedgefield, County Durham.
The firm's international vice president, Rob Drury, said the factory could create at least 500 jobs in north-east England.
The government is expected to decide whether to back the move this summer.
Drury said: "We're looking at an assembly, integration and test facility where we can bring together satellites for global markets in the future."
Sarah Slaven, managing director of Business Durham said the county council was working with the company on the factory bid.
"This is the future," she said. "This is the next industrial revolution and the North East is well placed to capitalise on it."
