Trains have been cancelled and some schools closed as Storm Goretti brought disruption to the West of England.

A Met Office warning for ice is in place until 12:00 GMT on Saturday for Gloucestershire, Bristol and Wiltshire.

Some Cross Country rail services have been cancelled on Friday from Cheltenham Spa to Swindon, Bristol Temple Meads to Cheltenham Spa and Cheltenham Spa to Bristol Parkway due to "severe weather".

In Gloucestershire, three schools have closed as the county saw some heavier snow in higher areas.

Forest View Primary School, SGS Forest High School and St White's School in Cinderford are closed to students due to poor conditions.

Some Great Western Railway (GWR) services calling at Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway have also been cancelled, including lines to Paignton and Edinburgh.

Travellers are being urged to check their journeys.

Gloucestershire Highways said some snow is lying on higher ground in the Forest of Dean.

"Please drive with care and allow extra time," it said.

Martyn Midgley, area highways manager for Gloucestershire County Council, said more snow is expected to fall in parts of Gloucestershire on Friday night.

"The Forest of Dean area is expecting more snow," he said.

"[Gritting teams] are going out at 20:00 GMT tonight and again at 07:00 GMT in the morning."

Bristol Airport is open as usual but Birmingham Airport has suspended all flights due to the severe weather.
