Sir Tom Jones is to headline a new series of concerts at a rugby stadium.

Gloucester Rugby has announced the return of concerts at the Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester, dubbed the Kingsholm Summer Series. The pop legend will perform there on 28 June.

CEO of Gloucester Rugby, Alex Brown, said: "There's so many good things going on in the city at the moment.

"Hopefully the concerts will be another enabler for people to come back and enjoy what Gloucester has to offer."

The Ministry of Sound Classical Orchestra will also perform a concert at the stadium on 27 June.

The orchestra takes songs from modern dance music history and recreates them using a 31-piece orchestra.

Sir Tom has played at the venue twice before - to a sell-out crowd in 2012 and again to 17,000 supporters in 2017.

Brown said the club would protect the stadium's artificial grass by covering it with special matting.

"It's designed specifically for artificial surfaces and for concerts, and then we recover it, reopen it, brush it, and make sure the pitch is perfect for use again for the start of pre-season, which will start in July," he said.

Stephen Freeman, executive chairman at Freemans Event Partners, said they were "extremely proud to be supporting Gloucester Rugby with the launch of the Kingsholm Summer Series".

"Bringing major live acts back to Kingsholm Stadium marks an exciting new chapter for the city."

Tickets for the concerts go on sale on 4 March.
