A person has died after being hit by several vehicles on the M6 motorway, police said.

The pedestrian was found dead following the incident between junctions 21 and 21A on the M6 in Warrington, a Cheshire Police spokesperson said.

Officers were called to reports of the collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway at around 02:50 GMT.

This section of the M6 northbound remains closed, along with a section near Leyland, Lancashire. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

The investigating forensic team has also closed the north side of Tebay Services in Cumbria as they carry out their work, police said.

A spokesperson for Westmorland, which runs Tebay Services, confirmed the closure and apologised "for any inconvenience caused", saying services would reopen once the police had concluded their work.
