Plans for £10m upgrade for holiday pool approved
Unity HolidaysA £10m upgrade for a swimming pool has been approved by a council despite residents' concerns over noise levels.
The redevelopment at the Unity Beach Holiday Park in Brean - known as Brean Splash - will see two more pool areas outside, a lazy river, a bigger changing space for families and a board walk.
Resort director Jonny Green said: "Our improved pool facilities will help us sustain and grow participation in swimming lessons and recreational activity, not only for guests staying on the park, but also for the wider community across Somerset."
However, some residents objected to the proposals, with one saying Unity was already "big enough" and "too loud".
Further plans include a new trampoline park, bandstand, boardwalk, landscaped gardens and a dog agility area.
Green added: "Investing in facilities like these also supports local jobs and training, while helping to attract more visitors to the Somerset coast — benefiting the wider local economy."
Somerset Council has now approved the plans, under the condition that the swimming pool can only be used for leisure activities between 07:30 and 20:30 GMT to protect residents from noise and disturbance.
Dermot King, operations director at Brean Splash, said: "The planners were very satisfied with the case we put before them and how we reassured everybody.
"Brean is a holiday destination anyway. It won't be an intrusive offer from a noise perspective."
The lido is expected to open in July 2026.
