Man appears in court charged with student's murder

Mohammed Algasim was on a 10-week placement in Cambridge studying English

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of an international student.

Mohammed Algasim, 20, from Saudi Arabia, was stabbed near Cambridge's main railway station on Friday night and died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Chas Corrigan, 21, of Holbrook Road in Cambridge, appeared at the city's Crown Court wearing a dark sweatshirt.

He did not enter a plea and will next appear in court on 8 September.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to Mill Park in Cambridge on Friday at about 23:30 BST

Mr Algasim had been on a 10-week study placement at the EF International Language Campus.

He was stabbed in the neck at about 23:30 BST on Friday in the Mill Park area of Cambridge.

Off-duty doctors and paramedics attended the scene but Mr Algasim died shortly afterwards.

Mr Corrigan is expected to enter a not guilty plea when he returns to court.
