Extra Sunday rail services will give passengers in the East Midlands greater flexibility and choice, according to the operating company.

From May there will be six new services on the Robin Hood Line between Nottingham and Mansfield Woodhouse, and two more stops at Beeston by London bound trains.

Additionally, a service between Nottingham and Liverpool will make a new stop at Edale in the Peak District.

As well as giving passengers more options, East Midlands Railway (EMR) said the changes could boost the Sunday economies of the stops by bringing more people to the area.

On top of the Sunday changes, an additional stop at Netherfield will be made by the 10:03 Nottingham to Skegness on weekdays and Saturdays.

The new Robin Hood line services, running from Nottingham at 10:06, 12:06 and 14:06, and back from Mansfield Woodhouse at 11:06, 13:06 and 15:06, will call at stations along the line including Bulwell, Hucknall, Newstead, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton Parkway and Mansfield.

Beeston will see the London train stop at 09:24 and 10:12, while the extra service for Edale will leave Nottingham at 09:42.

EMR's managing director Will Rogers said: "The new Sunday services on the Robin Hood Line will give communities along the route more flexibility to travel at weekends, while also helping to support local businesses and the Sunday economy.

"Alongside this, the additional stops and increased capacity on key leisure routes will help make it easier for customers to travel for days out, holidays and visits to friends and family."
