Man charged with assaulting police

A man has been charged with a number of offences after a police officer was taken to hospital with facial injures following an incident in Limavady on Sunday.

Police were called to a report of an altercation between two men in the town.

A 27-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault on police, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and resisting arrest.

He is due to appear at Antrim Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

A second man arrested in connection with the investigation remains in custody.
