A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead in a hotel near Gravesend, police have said.

Kent Police said they were called by South East Coast Ambulance Service to The Inn On The Lake, in Shorne, just before 12:00 GMT on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the police said: "A woman in her 40s was confirmed deceased at the scene and a 49-year-old man, who was known to her, was arrested in connection with the incident."

They added inquiries into the circumstances were under way following the completion of a post-mortem examination.
