A one-year-old who had surgery in California to widen his arteries and fix a hole in his heart is returning home to the UK.

Ollie, from Gobowen in Shropshire, was born with a number of serious issues and UK hospitals had only offered him palliative care.

His mother, Jasmin, said doctors at Stanford Children's Hospital told her they were "beyond happy with his progress" and had given them the all clear to fly home.

Ollie will now undergo further treatment in the UK, but Jasmin told her followers on social media: "This part of the journey is coming to an end."

She raised more that £1.5m to fund the operation in the United States, with the support of people including the actor Ryan Reynolds and the author Leigh Rivers.

Jasmin, who now lives with family in Wrexham, said she was excited and relieved to be returning home and thanked the thousands of people who followed her on social media.

"Thank you so much for being there with us throughout this entire thing and for getting us here in the first place of course," she said.

She also thanked the people of California "for welcoming us with open arms", but she added: "I'm ready to go home now."
