Permanent fix after hotel's cladding fell off
BBCWork to permanently repair cladding panels that fell from a hotel in Surrey is soon to begin, a council has said.
Victoria Way in Woking has been closed several times since 2021 after panels fell from the Hilton hotel building in stormy weather.
More than 14,000 revised fixings are to be installed to the exterior rainscreen panels using suspended access cradles and mobile access platforms.
The works are expected to take about six months to complete, according to Woking Borough Council.
To undertake the works, a single lane of the Victoria Way southbound carriageway will be temporary closed
The lane closure will be in place from 30 March and will last approximately 12 weeks.
Contractors Sir Robert McAlpine will undertake the work at their cost, the council added.
Council leader Ann Marie Barker said it was "a relief" that the works were finally being done.
"The temporary fix has worked but it will be good to know we have a lasting resolution," she said.
"As promised, Victoria Way will remain open for these works. A lane closure is necessary for safety, but full access will be maintained for pedestrians to the hotel, Victoria Square and offices on Victoria Way."
The Hilton hotel, local shop and offices within the vicinity will remain open for business as usual during the works.
