Council consults on closure of four-pupil primary school
Jim BartonScottish Borders Council has launched the process which could lead to the permanent closure of a small primary school.
Eddleston Primary has been mothballed since 2022 after pupil numbers fell from 24 to just four.
Statutory consultation has started on proposals to shut the site for good and runs until 15 February.
If agreed, the school's catchment area would be rezoned to either Newlands Primary at Romanno Bridge - the current temporary catchment - or Kingsland Primary in Peebles.
Scottish Borders Council's executive member for education Julie Pirone said: "We recognise that this has been a challenging time for all those affected, and our main focus remains providing certainty and support for families and children in the Eddleston area.
"The statutory consultation is an important opportunity for everyone to contribute their perspectives, and I strongly encourage all members of the community to share their thoughts and feedback.
"We are fully committed to considering all local input before any final decisions are reached."
A public meeting will be held in Eddleston Village Hall on 21 January and the consultation can also be accessed online.
