Man dies after car enters canal

A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a canal in Saltaire.

West Yorkshire Police said officers were called at 18:45 GMT on Sunday to reports a silver Range Rover Evoque had gone into the water near Hirst Mill Crescent.

Emergency services were called and officers entered the water to rescue the man.

The 74-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A force spokesperson said: "Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area prior to the collision or who saw the vehicle enter the water."
