A 35-year-old woman has been flown to hospital after a two-vehicle collision on the A9 south of Newtonmore.

The crash, between a Mercedes Sprinter van and Kia Sportage, happened at about 18:00 on Tuesday, half a mile south of the Ralia junction.

Police said the woman, a passenger in the Kia, remained in a critical condition after being taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by air ambulance.

The 34-year-old male driver of Kia has been treated for serious injuries. The 26-year-old male driver of the Mercedes has been discharged from hospital.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

The road was closed for more than 10 hours to allow for a police investigation.
