Funding for more clinic space at health centre
GoogleA health centre in Cornwall is one of 27 in the UK set to be expanded and modernised with a share of £50m government investment.
Truro Health Park is to be designated a Neighbourhood Health Centre, with capital investment in 2026/27, the Department of Health and Social Care said.
The work is expected to provide 22 new clinical rooms at the centre and capacity for about 152,064 additional "patient contacts" each year.
The government said it hoped the new Neighbourhood Health Centres would make it easier for people to access care closer to home by bringing services together under one roof.
The government said the investment at Truro Health Park meant underused areas could be used to increase clinical capacity and "enhance the overall setting for patients and staff".
Chris Reid, chief medical officer for NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, said: "By making better use of space, we can expand clinical capacity, modernise our facilities and accommodate a wider range of community partners and voluntary groups.
Derek Thomas, director of place for Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, said the health park was already a hub for its physical and mental health community teams, who worked closely with local GPs.
He said: "This investment will strengthen the way they provide treatment, therapy and support for local people.
"Modernising the site to create extra clinical space will help health and social care providers and the voluntary sector deliver more care and support on the doorstep."
