Police patrols after firearms discharge
Mike Buttery/BBCPolice patrols will be carried out over the weekend in part of Barnsley after reports of a firearms discharge, police have said.
Officers were called at about 21:45 GMT on Wednesday to reports that a building on Cemetery Road in Jump was believed to have been damaged by a suspected firearm, according to South Yorkshire Police, who added that no-one was injured in the incident.
A 58-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was bailed pending further inquiries.
Det Insp Claire Moss, from the South Yorkshire force, said: "Firearms discharges put innocent people at immediate risk, and we will not tolerate it in South Yorkshire."
Moss thanked members of the public who had supported officers' inquiries and urged anyone else with information to get in touch.
"Criminals who carry and fire illegal weapons threaten the safety of our communities, and although no one has been reported injured in this particular incident, the outcome could have been very different," she said.
"Every time someone pulls a trigger, people's lives are in danger and we will relentlessly pursue anyone using a firearm to cause harm in South Yorkshire."
