A woman has been assaulted by two masked men with weapons during a burglary in Ballymoney, County Antrim.

It happened at about 21:15 GMT on Friday in Carnany Park.

A number of children, a man and another woman were also in the house at the time.

The woman who was assaulted was taken to hospital for treatment.

A significant amount of damage was caused to the interior of the house and a number of items were smashed, police said.

"We believe the suspects turned right after leaving the house and then ran down an alleyway beside the next-door property," Insp Dalzell said.

"This was a very distressing incident for all concerned, particularly given the fact there were a number of children in the house while all of this was going on."

Police appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
