Bar's late night live music bid approved

A city centre bar can open later and stage live music events despite fears from police.

Tonne Bar, in St Martin's Square in Leicester, has been given permission to extend its 02:00 opening by an hour, to serve drinks outside and host live music events, by Leicester City Council.

Leicestershire Police had raised concerns with the bid over "alcohol-related" trouble.

The force's request for a 02:40 last orders was included in the new licence by the council's licensing committee.

Police licensing officer PC Jefferson Pritchard had said the "high concentration" of bars in the area serving into the early hours "unfortunately, occasionally [resulted] in alcohol-related violent crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour in the area".

Live music events would "most likely" only be held on "bank holidays and festival days", rather than every week, applicant Nicholas Ameer-Beg told the council's licensing committee.
