Trees were brought down in Guernsey by 90mph (145kmph) winds during Storm Goretti on Thursday

People have been told to not climb through barriers and cut up fallen trees as work to remove them continues after Storm Goretti.

The States of Guernsey said it had received reports of people taking their own chainsaws to Le Guet to cut logs while tree surgeons worked on clearing the area.

The government said the cordons had been set up for safety reasons and asked islanders to "respect the barriers".

A large number of trees fell during the storm which brought 90mph (145kmph) wind gusts to Guernsey on Thursday.

The States said the majority of blockages and obstacles on the island's main roads had been dealt with thanks to the efforts of tree surgeons, emergency services and landowners.

It said the focus of the clean-up operation had turned to minor roads, which remained the responsibility of landowners to organise for work to take place.

Affected landowners have been asked to email the government's traffic team to provide updates on whether a tree blocking a road had been cleared and if traffic management measures were needed to help with the removal.
