If approved, the 30mph limit on Woodlands Avenue in Woodley could be cut to 20mph

Two plans to cut speed limits to 20mph look set to be approved despite more people saying they opposed them than supported them.

Wokingham Borough Council is proposing to reduce the 30mph limits in part of Woodlands Avenue in Woodley and in Palmerstone Road and part of Culver Lane in Earley to "improve safety and comfort for all road users".

But of 166 people who responded to a council-run consultation, 114 were opposed to the Woodley plan. Of 77 who responded to the Earley plan, 46 said they were not in favour.

The council's executive member for active travel, transport and highways Adrian Betteridge will be asked to approve the projects, both of which will cost £5,000, on 9 January.

If approved, the limits will be reduced in Culver Lane from 15 metres east of its junction with Palmerstone Road and about 250 metres in a westerly direction. All of Palmerstone Road will be affected.

In Woodlands Avenue, the limit looks set to be reduced from a point 15 metres west of its junction with Fairwater Drive and eastwards for about 720 metres.
